Julie Nise, MA, LPC, LMFT
Before getting her Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology in 1996, Julie worked for 20 years in sales and management for high-tech medical device corporations. And she was an EMT for fun. (She thinks emergency medicine is really interesting.)
Besides this extensive business/corporate background, Julie has had a wide variety of clinical training and experience including marriage and couple communication work, premarital preparation, high-risk teens, sexual abuse, impulse control, career/life counseling and family therapy.
Julie has special training in Dr. Phil's methods and approach, and she often sees clients referred from the show. She was invited to appear on the Dr. Phil Show on 9/22/06 and again on 5/23/07. Click Here to view her appearances. In the Fall 07 season, she will be providing counseling services to the Dr. Phil Show as well as the "Decision House Show".
Julie has worked as a therapist for a high school, the United States Marine Corps, a private psychiatric hospital, and currently sees individuals, couples and families in her office in Friendswood.
She is first generation Italian/Scottish, well-traveled, happily married, has lots of opinions, a very balanced life, and is doing exactly what she loves most. Her hobbies include gourmet cooking, scuba diving, training two very clever Border Collies, Border Collie rescue work, and gardening when the weeds aren't too thick. (Hey, it's Texas, okay? Things grow big down here.)
Sandra Dwyer, MS, LPC
Wondering where the peaceful, loving relationships of childhood went with your teens angry words, slamming doors, poor grades, risky behavior, or non communication? Feeling out of control in how you discipline your young children who don't seem to listen and respond to what you ask? Call me. I have had 30 years experience working with both children and adolescents as a teacher, school counselor and administrator. I help my clients gain control of his/her environment allowing self esteem and affirmative choices to follow. I also work with parents helping them bring loving, discipline and peace, to their family dynamics
In addition, I am a certified anger resolution therapist. Instead of having a cookie cutter group in which participants vie for attention, I find that my 6 week personalized anger management program is more effective. My clients also appreciate the privacy of working on a one-to-one basis.
My practice is multi-specialty. I enjoy the challenges of change. I love traveling, reading and gardening (but my tomatoes need help!). Recent honors include a Fulbright-Hays seminar study of the cultures of our neighbors: Mexico and Canada. A Christian, I am married, a mother and and a grandmother.
Karen Cosper, Office Manager
It will probably be Karen's East Texas voice you hear when you call in to the center.... She will schedule your appointments, answer most anything about your insurance (how to use it, what yours covers, etc.). If you have a question about billing, payments, the therapists specialties, hours we're here, or Jake's favorite doggy treat, she's also your go-to person. (We think she probably knows everything, but we're afraid to ask.)
When she is not busy keeping the office running smoothly, she's enjoying her recently built new home with her two great kids, wonderful husband and incredibly cute Maltese, Taffy. She puts out the best home-made cookies for our clients you ever ate, and if you're lucky, there will be some left when you get here!
Jake & Blaze
Blaze & I are Therapy Dogs, and we have two very important jobs here at Aim Counseling Center. First, when people come in, we get to go up and say hi right away - to make you feel at home. Then I get to go get my squeaky toy so we can play. I especially like kids because they like playing fetch almost as much as I do. You can pet us or play with us, or we'll just sit with you a while.... we have lots of love to give if you just need a friend with fur.
We like going out in the back yard, too, because that's where we do our other important job: chasing squirrels. (We've never actually caught one, but we really like to chase them.)
